1. What Nia is
Nia is a family support coordination platform for diaspora families. Nia helps you plan recurring or one-time family support, track status updates and receipts, coordinate with trusted local partners, and document what you have arranged. If you subscribe to Nia Plus, you also get access to a directory of independent local M-Pesa and MoMo partners in Kenya and Uganda.
2. What Nia is NOT
Nia is not a bank, lender, money transmitter, remittance company, credit provider, BNPL service, or wallet. Nia does not hold, receive, send, transfer, advance, or guarantee any money. All actual money movement happens directly between you and the trusted local partner you choose. Local partners are independent third parties and set their own service fees. Nia is not a party to that transaction.
3. Things Nia never does
For clarity and Apple App Review compliance, Nia
never:
- never extends credit, in any form, to anyone
- never guarantees payment of any support request
- never approves financing or sets credit limits
- never collects debts on behalf of itself or any third party
- never manages repayments between you and your local partner
- never holds, receives, sends, or transfers user funds
Nia's only role is to facilitate communication, tracking, documentation, status updates, reminders, and record keeping for the family support you coordinate with trusted local partners.
4. About support requests
A “support request” is a planning record for a coordinated payment between you and a trusted local partner. A support request is not a loan, credit, advance, BNPL, or financing product from Nia. Any amount, service fee, fulfillment timing, and reimbursement schedule is agreed directly between you and your local partner. Nia does not approve, deny, fund, or guarantee any support request. Status labels in Nia (“requested”, “approved”, “fulfilled”, “settled”) describe the coordination workflow you and your local partner choose to track inside Nia — they do not reflect any decision or commitment by Nia.
5. Your account
You must be at least 18 years old. You agree to provide accurate information and to keep your account secure. You may delete your account at any time via Profile → Delete account; we soft-delete immediately and hard-delete within 30 days.
6. Acceptable use
You will not use Nia to: coordinate any unlawful activity, impersonate others, abuse local partners, or attempt to circumvent technical limits. We may suspend or terminate accounts that violate these terms.
7. Nia Plus subscription
Nia Plus is an optional paid subscription (currently $9.99 CAD per month — introductory launch pricing, regular price $14 CAD) that unlocks
advanced family coordination: priority customer support, unlimited family planning, advanced reminders, and detailed receipts. Subscriptions renew monthly until cancelled. See our
Refund Policy. Membership is a software subscription only. Nia does not extend credit. Nia does not set limits. Nia does not guarantee fulfillment. Nia does not change how a local partner's own service fee works.
8. Local partners are independent
Nia provides a directory of local M-Pesa and MoMo partners. Partners are independent business operators. They set their own service fees, hours, and operating practices. Nia does not employ, control, supervise, license, or guarantee any partner. You transact with partners at your own risk. Always confirm fees and methods directly with the partner before sending money.
9. No financial advice
Nothing in Nia is financial, tax, or legal advice. Use your own judgment, or consult a qualified professional.
10. Disclaimers
Nia is provided “as is.” We do not warrant that the app will be uninterrupted, error-free, or that any local partner will be available at any time. Reminders are best-effort — do not rely on Nia for time-critical financial decisions.
11. Limitation of liability
To the maximum extent permitted by law, Nia's aggregate liability to you for any claim related to the service is limited to the amount you paid Nia in the 12 months preceding the claim, or US$100, whichever is greater. We are not liable for any losses arising from your transactions with local partners, missed reminders, or third-party service failures.
12. Indemnity
You agree to indemnify Nia for losses arising from your misuse of the service or your violation of these terms.
13. Governing law
These terms are governed by the laws of Ontario, Canada. Any disputes will be resolved in the courts of Toronto, Ontario.
14. Changes
We may update these terms. Material changes will be announced ahead of time (at least 14 days) via in-app notification.
